The Shiba Inu is a member of one of the most ancient breeds of dogs still in existence today. The Shiba Inu is a breed of dog that originated from Japan. The English translation for its name is Little Brushwood Dog and was originally bred for hunting in mountainous terrain. Being a member of an ancient breed of dog, it has a strong prey drive so it is important to train Shiba Inu early.

Shiba Inu are intelligent and independent dogs so they can be a handful especially with inexperienced dog owners. One distinguishing feature of this breed is the Shiba scream which the dog will make when it is bored, unhappy or threatened. It is recommended for owners to train Shiba Inu dogs while they are still puppies. For dog owners to succeed in training, they must establish themselves as the pack leader or the alpha. This will earn you the dog’s trust and respect, which will make the training sessions easier. As a trainer, you must be calm, consistent and patient. When training your dog, you must never show your anger or frustration and take it out on the dog because the dog will see it as a sign of aggression. Since this breed has a stubborn streak, your dog will not back down from a fight. You should set a routine schedule that you can follow and repeat every day for months. If the schedule gets interrupted, the dog will get confused and it might lead to behavior problems. As a trainer, you should set realistic goals in a realistic time frame. Training a dog is never easy and proper training takes time.

It is easy to train Shiba Inu dogs to go to the bathroom because they are meticulous and clean dogs. Sometimes, the dog will train itself to go to the bathroom. The dog just needs a place to do it, maybe in the yard.

If you are planning to train Shiba Inu dogs, you should also socialize them properly early on. They should be exposed to different people (other family members, neighbors, and strangers), other animals, and unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells. They should get used to being petted and being handled (opening its mouth, clipping its nails, and brushing) and going to the vet for regular check-ups. A Shibu Inu that is not properly socialized will be an aggressive dog and is more likely to attack (and possibly kill) other animals because of their strong predatory instinct.
